Journal History

Excursions was founded in 2009. The brainchild of Liz Sage, the first chief editor, the project was started to provide a space for novel interdisciplinary thought at the postgraduate and early-career stage. Simultaneously, the project was to be an open-access journal, thus questioning the paywalled mechanisms of scholarly publishing and the neoliberal web within which the academy is entangled. The technical setup and CSS design of the Open Journal Systems platform was undertaken by Martin Paul Eve, the second chief editor.
